How are profits on the sale of silver plate to a refinery treated for tax purposes?
Purchased silverware and jewelry (especially dented) the purpose of reselling them at a refinery scrap the money to make a profit. Most pieces were purchased 1-2 years ago, a little less than a year. However, it has been refined in a lot with a payment. Would the benefits are treated as ordinary income or capital gain? What are the tax rates? Capital gain if, how can I separate the benefits (base pay less) in long-and short-term gain since it has been refined in a large lot with a payment?
How much money are we talking here? Is this a company profitable capital gain. the items you have purchased more than a year before selllng are long term. and those you have bought less than a year before selling are short. you enter your date of purchase and $ paid for it. Then you enter the date of sale, which will be the same for all the input from you have sold all at one time. Do you know the weight of each purchase? You share of the total received in the sale by the% weight that represents each purchase.
